When you are here you are with your family, family of dirt, family of loneliness, family of killers, family of miscreants, savages and friends but,
not your family in every sense of the word.
These men you’ll be with for the next 9 to 12 months will kill for you, will die for you and will give you hell….these are all things that are to be expected in our line of work but these men are boyfriends, uncles, fathers, brothers and sons.
They all come from separate corners of the earth and have different ideals.
They may not like you and some may down right hate you but regardless at the end of the day you share the same enemy blood on your hands, under your finger nails, you smell the same rotting bodies, and find the same ant trails, you hurt exactly the same just for different reasons and talk to the same man wearing a turban at the same bizarre in the next village.
We are the same soldier, all of us,
fight for the same things in different orders and under different pretenses.
Some will stay for 4 years and some for 25 but the time we share here is irreplaceable.
It’s sometimes sad and horrific but almost always absolutely magical especially in hindsight.
We are war in every sense of the word, sometimes we are soulless bastards and more than not we are just regular guys who picked an odd path to follow down this twisted and inconceivable road labeled life.
